2c - Quickfire Eights

What is it

An exercise that challenges people to create eight distinct ideas in eight (or less) minutes. The goal is to push beyond your first idea and generate a wide variety of solutions to your challenge.

After sketching your 8 ideas, write up the best ideas using the idea template.

Check it out on Miro here, or download the template below.

When to use it

In your ideation workshops, as an individual exercise. You can use this early on when you are focused on creating lots of ideas rather than on the quality of ideas.

Don't forget: You need a problem. This is the reason behind your challenge.

How to use it

Using 1 Post-it per idea, write down as many ideas as you can think of in a limited time - 5 minutes should be plenty for 8 ideas. Putting on time pressure is important.

Remember that the quality of ideas isn’t important at this stage – quantity comes first. Make sure to use stimuli or a direct How Might We question. People will quickly run out of ideas or go off track without stimuli to bounce off.  It’s a great way to get unblocked and warm up to create more in-depth ideas.
